The Kannada film Kantara Chapter 1 posted its lowest cumulative total ever since its October 2 release on Day 14, just about posting a two-figure net with an addition of Rs 10.5 cr only. This fell below the total posted by KGF: Chapter 2 at the two-week mark. The Yash-starrer had a net total of Rs 11.9 cr on Day 14. On Day 15, KGF-2 had added another Rs 9.9 for a cumulative week 2 total of Rs 158. 95 cr. In comparison, Kantara Chapter was at Rs 138.5 cr on Day 14, and unlikely to break the week 2 total of the Yash film.

Interestingly, Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, which is the current highest grosser of the year, had posted Rs 13.25 cr net on Day 14, despite being a Hindi-only release. The film’s week 2 total was also higher, ending at Rs 180.25 cr. Baahubali, of course, remains the undisputed champion in this respect, having pooled in Rs 23 cr on Day 14 and a week 2 total of Rs 264 cr.

Going by the film’s current downward trend, it would seem that a Rs 1,000 cr worldwide gross now looks unlikely, especially since the film will be on OTT in two weeks and that a slew of Deepavali releases are hitting theatres, like, for instance, Bison, Dude, Diesel, Theatre, Pet Detective and Thamma. Conservative estimates put Kantara Chapter 1’s worldwide gross in the Rs 800 cr to Rs 900 cr bracket. It remains to be seen if the film eventually manages to outgross Chhaava after all.
