On its third Friday at the box office, Kantara Chapter 1 registered its second consecutive sub Rs 10 cr net total across India. Day 16’s final figure was marginally better at Rs 9.12 cr over Day 15’s Rs 8.85 cr, but the big question now is if Kantara Chapter 1 will see a major upswing in collections what with the Deepavali festive holidays kicking in. In the south, there were multiple releases, Telusu Kada and KRamp in Telugu, Bison, Dude and Diesel in Tamil and Pet Detective and Theatre in Malayalam, most of which received decent audience feedback, but not really in the range to create a massive dent on Kantara Chapter 1’s performance in those markets.

Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam collections have been in the Rs 1 cr each range since last Monday, with much of the film’s money coming from the Kannada original and the Hindi dubbed version. In the Hindi belt, Kantara Chapter 1 will remain undisturbed until the 21st when the newest Maddock horror comedy addition, Thamma hits theatres. Should Kantara Chapter 1 benefit from this, chances are that the Rishab Shetty film could get really close to Chhaava’s lifetime gross figure. As of Day 15, the film was at Rs 717.5 cr worldwide gross, which is an estimated Rs 90 cr less than Vicky Kaushal’s film’s reported Rs 809 cr.

The domestic market has been doing the heavy lifting for Kantara Chapter 1, what with a major chunk of its week 2 collections coming from India, rather than overseas. One more good weekend, especially from the Hindi belt, is all that the Kantara prequel will need to become the highest grosser of 2025. As of now, the film has the distinction of being the highest grossing Kannada film, outdoing the horror comedy Su From So. It is unlikely to displace KGF: Chapter 2 as the highest grossing film from the industry, though.
Following the Deepavali holiday, Kantara Chapter 1’s theatrical revenue is expected to drop further, as it will then count down to its reported OTT release. The film is said to have a 28-day window for its south versions, with October 30 set as the date that it will drop on Amazon Prime Video.
Q. Are Kantara and Kantara: Chapter 1 the same?
A. No, they are separate films in the same franchise, both written and directed by Rishab Shetty. Kantara released in 2022, while Kantara: Chapter 1 hit theatres on October 2, 2025. Chapter 1 is the prequel of the original film and explores the origins of daivaradhane in the Tulunadu region.
Q. What is the run-time of Kantara Chapter 1?
A. Kantara Chapter is 2 hours and 47 minutes in total run-time.
Q. Where can one watch Kantara Chapter 1?
A. Kantara Chapter 1 hit theatres across the world on October 2, 2025. Subsequently, it will head to Amazon Prime Video on October 30, 2025, in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
Q. Whose avatar is Panjurli Daiva?
