Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1’s OTT journey is finally complete – the Hindi version of the film dropped on its streaming partner at the end of the mandatory 8-week window. As of November 27, 2025, Kantara Chapter 1 is available on Amazon Prime Video in Hindi also. The south language versions in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam came out on October 31, after the film completed 4 weeks at the box office.
Kantara Chapter 1's the highest grossing film of 2025
The prequel to 2022’s hit Kantara, the film owes half of its worldwide gross from the Kannada original and the Hindi dubbed versions, with the latter performing a tad better in theatres. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Kantara Chapter raked in Rs 223.3 cr net from its Hindi version, while Kannada made Rs 199.46 cr in 50 days. The film, reportedly, ended its theatrical run with a worldwide gross of Rs 851 .15 cr, surpassing Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava as the highest grossing film of 2025.
Kantara Chapter 1 was considered to be the film that would break into the Rs 1,000 crore club in 2025, but failed to get there. The film remains in 13th place on the list of highest grossing Indian films, led by Dangal. KGF: Chapter 2 is number 5 on the list and the only film from Sandalwood in the top 10.
Set in the 4th Century, Kantara Chapter 1 followed a conflict between a King and the tribals of Kantara, with the former eyeing the goodies of the mythical forest. The film also stars Gulshan Devaiah, in what became his first Kannada film, Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth, Deepak Rai Panaje, Rakesh Poojary, Mime Ramadas, Naveen D Padil, Prakash Thuminad, among others.
