Kantara Chapter 1, actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty’s highly-anticipated prequel to his hit 2022 film Kantara, is all set for its theatrical debut on October 2, 2025. Advance bookings have already opened in Karnataka and the tickets have been selling like wildfire. Kantara Chapter 1 is widely seen as the film of 2025 to breach the Rs 1,000 crore mark and if the bookings in the state are any indication, it may not be a distant dream after all.
As the film counts down to its theatrical outing, there’s news about its post-theatrical streaming schedule. Considering that Kantara had dropped on OTT 56 days after its theatrical release, it was thought that Kantara Chapter 1 will also follow a similar timeline. However, the streamer has decided to advance this and the film will be available on OTT much earlier this time.

Amazon Prime Video, which is home to the original film and picked up the streaming rights of Kantara Chapter 1 within months of Rishab and co going on floors in early 2024, has fixed the film’s streaming date. Kantara Chapter 1 will be available on Amazon Prime Video on October 31, only 4 weeks after the theatrical release, in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. The Hindi-dubbed version will likely be available after the 8-week mark.

The film, meanwhile, is set several centuries in the past, during the Kadamba reign and yet again follows a man vs nature conflict at its crux. The clash between the tribals living in Kantara and the King is the central plot, with Rishab also delving into the origins of divine land guardianship. A deep dive into the spirit protectors, Guliga and Panjurli, is expected this time around.
