In 2022, when the Kannada film Kantara came out and became a runaway hit, 2 weeks later, based on demand, the other language dubbed versions came out and Hindi turned out to be the second-best performer for the Rishab Shetty-led film. That market is going to be crucial for him this time as well and the Hindi version will have a simultaneous release on October 2, 2025.

Earlier this week, advance bookings for the Kannada version of the film were opened, as soon as the makers got temporary relief in the ongoing litigation against the Karnataka government’s order capping ticket prices at Rs 200 plus taxes. Amid the current stay on the order, ticket prices ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 1200 were the going rates on Day 1, and the film’s pre-sales were pegged at Rs 5 crore as of September 27. With 4 days to go for the film’s release and the likelihood of wide-spread paid premieres on October 1, Kantara Chapter 1 is expected to have a massive first weekend in the state.
Amid this craze for Rishab’s film, audiences in north India have been waiting patiently for word on when they will be able to grab the earliest seats for the film. The makers have now announced that advance bookings in north India, where it is being distributed by Anil Thadani, will begin on September 28 at 9.07 am.
It has been alleged that team Kantara Chapter 1 has been pushing for non-sharing of shows/screens in theatres with up to 3 screens, which is set to impact the Hindi original film, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Kantara Chapter 1 is gunning for an all-India screen count of around 7,000, a bulk of which will come from the north India belt.
This time around, the film has only a 4-week theatrical window before dropping on OTT, at least for the south languages, so the team will look at capturing maximum number of screens in all its markets. Besides Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, Kantara faces competition from Dhanush’s directorial Idli Kadai in Tamil Nadu, while Pawan Kalyan’s OG came out only a week ago and will still hold theatres in the AP/Telangana belt.
