Kantara Chapter 1’s English version finally sets theatrical release date

Kantara Chapter 1 is now gearing up for its date with international audiences. Rishab Shetty’s Kantara prequel has been dubbed in English for global viewers and has set a theatrical release date too. The English version will be in theatres across the world from October 31, 2025. So far, the overseas theatrical run of Kantara Chapter 1 had been in Indian languages with English subtitles only. The makers have dubbed the film in Spanish as well, but there’s been no update on its release plans.
Kantara Chapter 1 set to outgross Chhaava
The film, which released on October 2, is all set to become the highest grossing film of the year this week, having closed in on the Rs 800 cr worldwide gross figure. Chhaava, at a reported Rs 809 cr worldwide, is the only film still ahead of Kantara Chapter 1. The Rishab Shetty film, however, is unlikely to break into the top 10 highest grossing Indian films ever. Chhaava is currently at number 13, with Secret Superstar (Rs 858 cr) ahead of it.
With an impending OTT outing on October 30, Kantara Chapter 1 is unlikely to make it to the Rs 1,000 crore club, leaving KGF: Chapter 2 as the only film from the Kannada industry with that distinction. The Yash starrer is currently in 5th position of highest grossing Indian films, behind Dangal, Baahubali 2, Pushpa 2 and RRR.
Kantara Chapter 1, written and directed by Rishab, who also plays the lead, is set in the 4th Century and tells the tale of a conflict between a king and the inhabitants of Kantara, a forest protected by divine forces. Rishab is joined by the likes of Jayaram, Gulshan Devaiah, Rukmini Vasanth, Rakesh Poojary, Naveen D Padil, Deepak Rai Panaje, Prakash Thuminad, Mime Ramadas, Bala Rajwadi, among many others, on the cast.
