Cinematographer-filmmaker S Krishna had announced his next directorial some time ago. The film, called Kaali, will have Junior Rebel Star Abishek Ambareesh in the lead. A romantic drama set in the 90s, Kaali’s narrative unfolds during the Cauvery riots and follows the relationship between a guy from Karnataka and a girl from Tamil Nadu. The film is still in pre-production, as Abishek has been winding up his movie with director Duniya Suri, Bad Manners, which is widely seen as his relaunch in the industry, following his disastrous debut with director Nagashekar’s Amar. The actor plays a police officer in the action thriller, which also has Rachita Ram and Priyanka (of the Kannada serial Krishna Tulasi fame) in pivotal roles. The film, which has music by Charan Raj, also has Tara and Sharath Lohithashwa on the cast.

Meanwhile, last evening, news broke that Krishna has zeroed in on the leading lady of his film. The current flavour of the season, Kantara girl Sapthami Gowda has apparently been signed on to romance Abhishek in the film that is set to go on floors shortly. We tried reaching out to Sapthami, but no response was forthcoming, presumably because a major announcement for this casting is being planned. In an earlier conversation with Krishna’s wife and producer Swapna, she had said that they were looking at going on floors with Kaali in November. As for the rumours about Sapthami's inclusion on the cast, Swapna sent a message promising to revert soon.

Sapthami, who made her film debut with Duniya Suri’s Popcorn Monkey Tiger, opposite Dhananjaya, got her first solo lead role in Rishab Shetty’s Kantara, something she is immensely grateful to him for. Her performance as Leela has been widely appreciated, although issues with the characterization and portrayal of women have been pointed out. The film, which released in theatres on September 30 and has been a massive hit, is slowly winding up its theatrical run and preparing for its OTT debut on November 24.
