Rishab Shetty's Kantara flew past the Rs. 200 crore mark recently and is now well on course to beat the lifetime collections of K.G.F: Chapter 1. While the original Kannada version of the film remains the main contributor to these staggering box office numbers, the Hindi and Telugu dubbed versions have formed a league of their own and are marching towards new benchmarks.
Yes, according to the latest trade reports, Kantara Hindi has stormed past the Rs. 25 crores mark at the domestic box office and that too in terms of the net value. The Hindi version, which was released in theatres on October 14 with Anil Thadani serving as the distributor, got off to a promising start and remained on the path to becoming a successful venture on its own. As of October 26, Kantara Hindi has collected Rs. 26.73 crores in India alone to emerge as a blockbuster at the box office.
Before the release of the dubbed Hindi version, Kantara Kannada had already garnered rave reviews from northern Indian audiences and it was apparent all along that the Hindi film would fare quite well upon release. The Kannada release also holds the feat of being the first-ever South Indian film to release in its original language in the iconic Maratha Mandir and Gaiety Galaxy cinema halls in Mumbai.
In the same vein, Kantara Telugu too can a declared as a bona fide box office success with collections close to Rs. 25 crores in India alone. Distributed by Allu Aravind, the Telugu version has received a lot of love and attention from the audiences in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh: so much so that the dubbed release posed a stiff challenge to the other Telugu releases at the box office and even managed to surpass their collections.
Kantara Tamil and Kantara Malayalam, on the other hand, have made relatively slow progress and collected Rs. 3.2 crores and Rs. 3.01 crores (net) respectively.
