Kantara on OTT: New release dates speculated for Rishab Shetty’s blockbuster, but when will it drop?

Considering that the film was sold to Amazon Prime Video prior to its theatrical release, it was assumed that it would head to the streamer within 30 days, but its blockbuster success changed all that.

These days, the question on pretty much everyone’s mind is, when will the mega blockbuster Kantara come to OTT. Those who have seen it on the big screen and fell in love with Rishab Shetty’s story-telling and those who, unfortunately, have not been able to catch it yet are yearning to see it at the earliest on Amazon Prime Video, the streamer that bagged the digital rights prior to the theatrical release.

Given that the deal with Prime Video was before the release, the assumption was that it would include a standard, on or before 30 days OTT outing, but the film’s massive and unstoppable box office success changed this. Although it was initially thought that November 4 would be the day that the film would be on the platform, the production house, Hombale Films clarified that it would not come so soon.

Soon enough, rumours began doing the rounds that the film could still be on the platform on November 4, but on rental basis only, which was then believed to have been shifted to November 11 or 18. Social media discussions have pegged the latest that Kantara is coming to Prime Video as early December. The mid-November to early December timeline has gained fuel based on the fact that Kantara’s daily recorded gross is now slowly on the decline, which is being seen as the impending end of its theatrical run.

Most unsubstantiated reports about Kantara on OTT have November 18 as the date, but it is also being said that it will be rental only for some time at least. How long Amazon keeps it in the store will also be interesting, given that KGF: Chapter 2 was up for early access for two weeks, while 777 Charlie’s been there for well over a month and still showing no sign of being available for free to subscribers of the platform.
