Comic and actor Kapil Sharma will be seen playing a serious character in director Nandit Das' Zwigato. At a recent media gathering, the actor took on critics who wonder if film audiences will be able to accept him as a serious actor.

Kapil said, "I never strategise, because I am someone who goes with the flow. Maaze ki baat yeh hai ki people are now saying that it is hard for them to see me in a serious character, because for the last 10 years, they have seen me as a comic. Earlier, people were not convinced that I could be a stand-up comedian. I remember, when I approached a TV channel to give me a slot for my show, they were not convinced and gave me only a three-month-long contract. Aaj 10 saal ho gaya hai! I think God has been with me all along, helping me sail through the journey, because TV is a tough medium, where you need to create content for each and every episode. Back then, I didn't know that I would have to strategise for a 10-year-long project. It is the same with my acting career in films."

Kapil has acted in films and even produced them earlier, but they didn't become as successful as expected. The actor admitted that doing films was also not a planned move for him.

"My first film, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, which was written by Anukalp Goswami, was a wonderful experience for me because that was my first-ever film. It was a good film. Then, I acted in and produced the film Firangi, which was directed by my friend Rajiev Dhingra. I badly wanted to be part of Zwigato, so I had to work extra hard to have episodes in bank so that there was no problem with the telecast of my TV show. But overall, I must say that if there is a will, there is a way," said the actor.

Zwigato, which also stars Sahana Goswami, releases in theatres on March 17.
