Kara glimpse out: Dhanush-Vignesh Raja film is gritty, dark thriller set in Ramanathapuram

D54 is now called Kara. The movie team had announced the title of the film earlier on Thursday, coinciding with the occasion of Pongal. Starring Dhanush in the lead role, the film is written and directed by Vignesh Raja. Apart from the title reveal, a glimpse was also revealed.

Kara glimpse: What is Dhanush film about?

The glimpse teaser begins with a rainy night, as Dhanush is seen escaping. Soon, we see cotton fields burning, as Dhanush's character gives a voiceover that talks about reaping their fruits, or weeds. As the time of harvest nears, the voiceover talks about fulfilling his responsibilities. Dhanush plays Karasamy aka Kara.

Touted as a commercial thriller set against the rugged and rustic landscapes of Ramanathapuram, Kara is expected to be a dark, gripping and gritty film in the making. It is written and directed by Vignesh Raja who earlier helmed the critically acclaimed crime thriller Poz Thozhil. The shooting has been wrapped up.

What do we know about Kara?

Kara features an ensemble cast with Dhanush in the lead role, alongside Mamitha Baiju, who is paired opposite him for the first time. The film also boasts an impressive supporting cast comprising KS Ravikumar, Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunas, and Prithvi Pandiarajan. The film is slated for a theatrical release sometime in summer of 2026. Kara’s post-theatrical streaming rights have been bagged by Netflix for a fancy price. The technical crew of Kara is Theni Eswar as the cinematographer, Sreejith Sarang as the editor, Mayapandi handling production design. GV Prakash once again reunites with Dhanush for Kara.
