The latest reports reveal a new update to Karan Johar's Dharmatic Entertainment's upcoming slate. Rumour has it that Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Ranta are being considered for starring roles in a female-led Netflix film that Dharma Productions' digital subsidiary has set up.
A source told Peeping Moon that headlining the story are Konkona and Pratibha, with a stellar ensemble cast of supporting actors still in the works. The details of the narrative and characters are still unknown, but speculation suggests it's a romantic comedy with some lighthearted moments. Yash Keshwani and Sima Agarwal, known for their work on films such as Khaali Peeli and Anek, penned the script. Anubhuti Kashyap, who last directed Ayushmann Khurrana and Rakul Preet in Doctor G, will be directing the film.
Prior to the 2022 theatrical release of her feature debut, Doctor G, Kashyap had already signed with Dharma Productions. She had already secured major roles for Ishaan Khatter and Triptii Dimri in a romantic comedy for the brand, but the reasons for the film's shelving remained undisclosed. Rumour has it that her most recent project is a forward-thinking love story between two female protagonists. She has already initiated pre-production and expects the film's production to commence in September or October of 2024.
Following their collaborations on Guilty, Ajeeb Daastaans, Searching for Sheela, Meenakshi Sundareshwar, Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, and The Fame Game, Dharmatic Entertainment has now completed its eighth production for Netflix India with this latest venture. Following Cargo, Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare, Ajeeb Daastaans, and Killer Soup, Konkona's fifth film for Netflix will be this collaboration with Dharmatic.
Across multiple OTT platforms, Dharmatic Entertainment is currently developing five projects. Amazon Prime Video will debut Call Me Bae, starring Ananya Panday, and Daring Partners, starring Tamannah Bhatia. On August 9, ZEE5 will debut Gyaarah Gyaarah, an investigative fantasy drama starring Kritika Kamra, Dhairya Karwa, and Raghav Juyal. In addition, Disney+ Hotstar's digital series version of Student of the Year and Netflix's Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, both in their third seasons, are on the schedule.
In the meantime, Konkona's next appearance will be in Metro... In Dino, the highly anticipated anthology film by Anurag Basu, is releasing on November 29 in theatres. She is also working on a short film, Chashma, under the direction of renowned editor Nitin Baid. She's also in early negotiations for a thriller with Junglee Pictures.
After Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies was a huge success, Pratibha Ranta signed on for a romance film with Vikrant Massey.
