Karan Johar finally shares an update on Takht, hints at revival a la Dostana 2

Years back, Karan Johar had left everyone curious by announcing A-listers coming together for his big project, Takht. The filmmaker mentioned the biggest of Bollywood actors would come together for the historical drama, only for it to be shelved almost immediately. Although never officially confirmed as being on the backburner, it was always assumed that Takht might not be taking off, given the movie failed to go on floors and release on the scheduled date. Now, Karan has a new update on his film and it could be exciting news! The movie is likely to be revived, just like Dostana 2.

Karan Johar confirms plans for Takht

When asked about an update on Takht, Karan told Galatta Plus, "It’s a film on my table, and I will make it one day." This is because the filmmaker believes that the screenplay, written by Sumit Roy, is one of the best he ever received. “It is, I think, my best screenplay that has come on my table, and I will make it one day,” the filmmaker affirmed.

Takht being revived?

The movie was originally scheduled for Christmas 2021 release which obviously did not happen. It was thus automatically assumed that among other movies, Takht was also on the backburner. But with Dostana 2 being revived and Karan now expressing his interest in Takht revival too, things might just be looking up. The movie was originally announced with Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonchiriya actor Bhumi Pednekar, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. Whether the cast can be retained after the revival is the question of the hour.

Dostana 2 update

The buzz in Bollywood is that Dostana 2 is revived years after Karan Johar and Silvat actor Kartik Aaryan's fallout owing to the movie. Dostana 2 came back on track right after things started moving with KJo and Kartik through Naagzilla. The current news is that Love Hostel actor Vikrant Massey has stepped in as Kartik's replacement. Janhvi Kapoor is no longer associated with the movie and there's still speculation about who could the female lead in the movie be.
