In 2014, filmmakers Karan Johar and Guneet Monga announced that they would produce the Hindi remake of the French film ‘The Intouchables’ that would be directed by ‘Aashiqui 2’ director Mohit Suri. It has been 9 years since this announcement was made and no concrete development about the film happened. However, it is often said that where there is a will, there is a way. Keeping up with this motto, Karan and Guneet have today shared an exciting development about this project. Reportedly, Mohit Suri has been replaced by Collin D'Cunha for the project.
Hindi remake of The Intouchables gets a new director – Collin D'Cunha
According to a report published in Deadline today, “Indian powerhouse producers Guneet Monga Kapoor and Karan Johar are moving ahead with their Hindi-language adaptation of French smash, The Intouchables, by hiring director Collin D’Cunha.”
The report added that Karan and Guneet first acquired the remake rights from Gaumont – a cinema company – almost a decade ago. The original movie, which ended up becoming a box office sensation, featured Hollywood actors namely Omar Sy and François Cluzet. The movie has a significant number of remakes, including a Telugu and Tamil version, and a U.S. version starring Kevin Hart.
Sources close to the development told Deadline that the Hindi remake of The Intouchables “aims to recreate the magic of the original while adding a unique touch that resonates with Indian audiences.”
Deadline even reached out to Collin for a comment on the exciting development. He said, “Directing The Intouchables adaptation is an incredible honour for me as a filmmaker. Working with Karan Johar, Guneet Monga, and the entire team is something I’m greatly excited for and looking forward to”.

In 2014, Karan Johar took to Twitter to announce the collaboration with Sikhya Entertainment.
“Guneet Monga (Sikhya Entertainment) and Dharma Productions will co-produce the Official remake of #Intouchables…directed by Mohit Suri….,” he had tweeted. As of date, Karan Johar deleted his account from the social media platform.
