Karan Johar has joined the long list of celebrities who have come out in praise of The Kashmir Files. The popular Bollywood filmmaker talked about the film’s huge success recently.
In a conversation with Galatta Plus, the filmmaker said that the film could go on to become one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema when comparing the cost to profit ratio of the film, as the film had a budget that did not reach the scale of a lot of big-budget films. Johar also said that he read in Box Office India that such a ‘movement’ had not taken place since 1975, the year Jai Santoshi Maa came out.
The filmmaker also said that the film had ‘something’ that the nation could connect with, and that the subject was something academics should know of and learn from. “You have to watch it to absorb, to learn from it that look, there is this movement that has happened. It's no longer a film, it's a movement," he added.
Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut, Abhishek Bachchan and Yami Gautam Dhar are some of the celebrities who have also heaped praise on the Vivek Agnihotri directorial. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too appreciated the film.
The film focuses on the story of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits that took place in the 1990s. Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, Mithun Chakraborty, Chinmay Mandlekar, Puneet Issar, Mrinal Kulkarni and Atul Srivastava star in the film.
