Karan Johar pays tribute to 90s magic with Farah Khan in Shah Rukh Khan's Duplicate flashback

Karan Johar and Farah Khan Kunder go way back, and their friendship constantly screams goals. The association began in a full-fledged way when Farah choreographed songs in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan's directorial debut. However, Karan began his career as a filmmaker in 1998, having already worked for Dharma Productions, previously led by his father, Yash Johar. Thus, he collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan on the 1998 Mahesh Bhatt-directed film Duplicate after Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

Now, KJo took to his Instagram story and shared a video of the quirky song from Duplicate, Wah Ji Wah, in which SRK showed his culinary skills in the cutest way. Farah choreographed the entire song, resulting in a visual delight.

While sharing the video, Karan wrote on his story, "Farah Khan Kunder is owning and nailing the vibe! Duplicate was so much fun to shoot! Shah Rukh Khan is giving each shot a volcano of energy!!! The magic of the 90s. (sic)"

Farah also reacted and reposted the story by stating, "The film where I actually became best friends with you, Karan Johar."

Shah Rukh Khan's dual role

For the uninitiated, Shah Rukh plays a dual character in this film. Sonia (Juhi Chawla) becomes the love of Bablu's life, a young and innocent aspiring cook. When Manu, a recently released prisoner, finds out that his lookalike, Bablu, exists, things start to change. To exact his vengeance, Manu intends to assassinate Bablu while posing as an innocent citizen.

The Hollywood film Face/Off served as a loose inspiration for Duplicate. 

Farida Jalal's recollection

Earlier, in an interview with Rajshri Unplugged, Farida Jalal, who played SRK's onscreen mother in the film, recalled an incident by saying, "I remember we were in Mauritius to shoot Duplicate. So my mother and I were at the airport. Who will believe that he came in, took the luggage trolley from us, and was pushing it for us?"

Duplicate is currently streaming on Netflix and Prime Video.
