Sapta Sagaradaache Ello being the trending buzzword on social media for a while, it is not surprising that reports have emerged of the Kannada original film, which has dubbed versions in other languages, being of interest for Karan Johar. The Dharma Productions head is, ‘according to sources’, keen to acquire the Hindi remake rights, but he wants Hemanth M Rao, who wrote and directed the original to come on board as well. If the development is indeed true, it would be interesting, considering that the Hindi version of Side A (Sapta Sagaradaache Ello is a two-part film), did not get a theatrical outing and even on OTT, it did not have enough buzz to warrant a north India release for Side B, which hit theatres on November 17.

At present, Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side A is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. Side B is currently in theatres in all four south languages and garnering positive feedback. The news of Karan Johar’s interest in the film, though, has not amused netizens, who do not want him to ‘ruin’ a good film. Moreover, considering that Side A is already available with Hindi audio and that Side B too has been dubbed and kept ready, either for theatres or OTT, it does not make sense for Karan to remake it. Also, given the love that the cast, especially leading man Rakshit Shetty, who is also the producer and heroine Rukmini Vasanth have got, it would be unwise to recast the roles.

Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, meanwhile, follows the story of Manu (Rakshit) and Priya (Rukmini) a much-in-love couple, whose relationship is shattered when he decides to try earning a quick buck for them to have a brighter future, by owning up to a crime he didn’t commit. In exchange for a promised handsome sum and legal assistance to ensure he doesn’t spend much time behind bars, Manu takes the blame in a fatal hit-and-run case, only to get stuck in jail with a 10 year sentence when his ‘benefactor’ dies and his family fails to live up to the agreement. This, of course, had a devastating repercussion on Manu’s relationship with Priya and was pretty much what Side A was all about.

Side B picks up 10 years later, with Manu just out of jail and still not over Priya. And when he realizes that she has not got the life she dreamt of and is living in misery, his guilt pushes him to right these wrongs. The film also features Chaithra J Achar, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Ramesh Indira, among others on the primary cast.
