Karishma Tanna, who starred with Ranbir Kapoor in 2017's Sanju, has been out of employment for nearly a year and has spoken out about her experience. In the Rajkumar Hirani-directed movie, the actor played a minor role. The performer claimed that she was driven to melancholy because, despite receiving plaudits for her supporting role in the blockbuster picture, she did not receive as much work as she had hoped for.

Sanjay Dutt's biography is examined in Sanju, which details his struggles with drug addiction, criminal allegations related to the 1993 Bombay bombings, and more. Karishma played Pinky, the girlfriend of Sanju's best buddy (Vicky Kaushal), who had an affair with him, while Ranbir played Sanjay.

Karishma told Siddharth Kanan that she thought Sanju, despite her small role, would help her move ahead in life. This was after the success of Sanju, which she credits with propelling her career. However, this proved to be a false alarm. Whatever reactions, films, or projects she had anticipated after the film did not materialise. The actor didn't work for about a year, but it felt like seven or eight months.

After being hailed as a 'promising' performer, the actor stated she couldn't figure out what went wrong with her career. The industry had high hopes that she would be offered roles after Sanju. It's hard to say; there are times when one has to ask themselves, "What does life want?" What can she do more to demonstrate her acting abilities? There was a period of depression for the actor.

Karishma's existence seemed so bland and colourless to her. In terms of a profession, she was at a loss. She was texting everyone she knew to see if they watched Sanju. Only her mother was there with her. The actor didn't want to cause her extra anxiety by telling her. Her mother is quite emotional. Since none of her friends work in the field, they wouldn't get it. She also mentioned that she was having depressing thoughts at the time. The motivation to do so came from within. Only she knows how she has gotten past that phase.

Karishma stated that until OTT opportunities presented themselves, she relied on other means, including Instagram advertisements. The actor's next project is the Netflix original film Scoop by Hansal Mehta.
