Karisma Kapoor’s breakup with Abhishek Bachchan affected her work, reveals Dharmesh Darshan

Not all love stories have a happy ending, and Bollywood's ex-couple Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan were one of them. According to reports, the couple got engaged but eventually called it quits for a number of reasons. Director Dharmesh Darshan now says that the actress appeared to be distracted and troubled during the 2002 movie Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya as a result of their breakup.

Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan played the key roles in the Dharmesh Darshan-directed film. During an interview with Lehren Retro, a YouTube channel, when asked about the relationship between Abhishek and Karisma off-screen (for the uninitiated, their engagement ended during filming), Dharmesh stated, “Karisma was distracted, naturally, with the marriage thing... It showed in the film. I’m not a psychiatrist; I can’t interfere in their relationship. And I was hearing both sides. I’ll be honest with you. And I’m watching also."

Darshan also discussed the flaws in this Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya. He expressed regret over taking on this project because it was one of those that the director had given to their assistants. “It was the first and last time Abhishek and Karisma did a film together. Abhishek is a very sweet guy, but it wasn’t the same Lolo I’d seen during Raja Hindustani.” In the box-office hit Raja Hindustani, Darshan worked with Karisma.

When questioned about the couple's broken engagement, Dharmesh claimed that Karisma appeared distracted on the sets shortly after it ended. It was evident in the movie, he said. "I’m not a psychiatrist; I can’t interfere in their relationship. And I was hearing both sides. I’ll be honest with you. And I’m watching also,” Darshan added.
