Kannadathi fame actor Kiran Raj’s much publicized return to the small screen, Karna, in which he plays the title character, was meant to begin telecast on June 16 on Zee Kannada, with episodes also available on Zee5 (and, by extension, on OTTplay Premium). However, ahead of the show’s premiere, Kiran took to social media to announce that there would be a delay in its start date, owing to legal issues. He did not clarify what the exact cause was, but soon enough, social media was abuzz with plausible reasons.
Karna: Bhavya Gowda to be replaced?
In Karna, Kiran is paired with Bhavya Gowda and it is said that the actress is at the heart of this storm. All promotional material of Karna that Bhavya, who was last seen on Bigg Boss Kannada Season 11, had posted on her social media handles were removed. It is said that the move comes after rival channel Colors Kannada, which hosts Bigg Boss Kannada, filed legal proceedings against Bhavya for breach of contract.
According to reports and social media buzz, Bhavya was under contract with Colors Kannada for a period of 6 months following Bigg Boss Kannada 11, which prevented her from being a part of any show/programme on a competing channel. Given that Bigg Boss Kannada 11 ended only on January 26,2025, this would mean that she would be contractually bound till July 25, 2025.
It is also being reported that Colors Kannada initiated legal action against the actress, as she had excused herself from being a part of the reality show Boys vs Girls, which featured most of the Bigg Boss Kannada contestants.
The big question now is if Zee Kannada will wait till the end of Bhavya’s contract with Colors Kannada and for the legal issues to be sorted, or if the actress will be replaced. Karna also stars Namrata Gowda in a pivotal role, as well as TS Nagabharana, Veena Sundar, Sundar Veena and many more. Kiran Raj is, reportedly, playing a gynaecologist in the show, which focuses on the trials and tribulations on his personal front.
