The Karna, starring Chiyaan Vikram, teaser reveal comes just hours after director RS Vimal announced his plans to resume the production of Karna.
In an unexpected development, Malayalam director RS Vimal unveiled the teaser of his ambitious production Karna, featuring Tamil superstar Chiyaan Vikram in the titular role. The production of the epic movie has been stuck in limbo for unknown reasons for five years now. And it was really a pleasant surprise to see the first glimpse of Vikram's mythological avatar.
The teaser reveal comes just hours after Vimal posted on his Facebook page about the plans to resume the production of Karna. The promo video has been solely cut to give the audience a taste of the director's vision for the big-screen adaptation of an iconic mythical character and the movie's visual style.
Karna teaser promises an epic experience
The teaser captures a moment on a battlefield with two massive rival armies, complete with footsoldiers, cavalry and war elephants, ready to fight to the death. There is also a gigantic chariot which carries our hero Suryaputhran Karnan. The promo demonstrates Karnan's unmatchable battle prowess. Just by firing a single arrow, he brings the entire rival army to a standstill.
The promo reveals the character look of Vikram, who sports a long, salt-and-pepper hairstyle and a thick beard. The reimagination of the avatar of Karna is very different from the ones we had in previous popular movies on this character.
Is Vikram unhappy with the teaser of Karna?
Speculations are rife that Vikram was upset with the release of the teaser of Karna. If the reports are to be believed, Vimal made an arbitrary decision to unveil the first glimpse of what looks like a massive production without much consultation. It's said that the teaser release didn't have the approval or the blessing of Vikram. Some have claimed that Vikram was not even aware of this teaser launch.
It's noteworthy that even hours after the release of the teaser on Sunday, Vikram had not shared it on his social media pages. The reason why Vikram is not promoting such a big movie in his career was not immediately clear.
The cast and crew of Karna
Vimal is known for his hit romantic drama Ennu Ninte Moideen, a tragic story of star-crossed lovers, inspired by true events. Karna will be the biggest production in the director's career. When the movie was announced in 2018, the director had estimated it would cost the producers a whopping Rs 300 crore to make this movie.
Vimal had plans to shoot it in Hindi and Tamil and dub it in all major languages. He will be co-writing the movie with popular novelist and screenwriter B Jayamohan, who also worked on Vikram's last blockbusters Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2.
The filmmakers have not yet revealed the remaining members of the cast and crew.
