Meiyazhagan, starring Karthi and Arvind Swamy, is a poignant Tamil movie that beautifully portrayed family bonds and human emotions. The film left many a viewer in tears, with the emotional tale of a man who returns to his ancestral town after decades. Now, Malayalam actor Asif Ali, who was last seen in the hit Rekhachithram , too has admitted that he was moved to tears watching the 2024 Tamil film.
Asif Ali is gearing up for his next release Aabhyanthara Kuttavaali, which seeks to put the spotlight on men who are seemingly suffocating in relationships and seek an emotional escape. During a recent interview with the Reporter channel, Asif Ali spoke about societal notions about men and crying.
“Men and boys often get mocked if they cry. I also grew up hearing not to cry like girls. But I am very emotional,” Asif Ali remarked

The Thalavan star further said that he cried while watching Meiyazhagan. “My family got scared seeing me cry,” he added.
In Aabhyanthara Kuttavaali, Asif Ali is seen as Sahadevan, who is in the dock after his marital relationship runs into trouble. The film seeks to narrate the men’s version in domestic issues, which the makers believe rarely get portrayed or discussed in cinema.
The trailer of the film, released earlier, had Asif Ali’s character saying, “Section 498A (cruelty and harassment in marriage) is set up to protect women, not for ruining the lives of men.”
Debutant director Sethunath Padmakumar's film also features Jagadish, Thulasi, Anand Manmadhan, Sidharth Bharathan and Azees Nedumangad. The film, which was earlier scheduled to release on April 17, will now be out on May 1.
On the other hand, Meiyazhagan follows Arul (Arvind Swamy) as he goes back to his ancestral village where he grew up for a wedding. At the wedding, he meets a cheerful, chirpy relative who seems to know him well, but Arul has no recollection of this person.
