Actor Karthi has begun the dubbing for his upcoming film Sardar, which is all set to hit screens this Diwali. A short video of the dubbing session has surfaced on the internet. In the video, the film's director Mithran R Jawahar is seen telling Karthi to say the dialogue in Kamal Haasan's style. Karthi first asks PS Mithran to say it and then jokingly tells him that he can do only what he is good at and goes to dub the line in his own style, "Naalu Perukku Nallathu Pannaalum, Naapaathaayiram Perukku Theriyura Mathiri Pannanum. (If you do something for a few, do it in a way that 40,000 people get to know about it)."
The line is inspired from Kamal Haasan's iconic line from Mani Ratnam's legendary gangster drama Nayakan, 'Naalu Perukku Nallathunna, Ethuvum Thappilla', which translates to there's nothing wrong in doing something if it means it will benefit a few. The line has been tweaked by actors in a number of films in Tamil.
Sardar is a spy action film, directed by PS Mithran, which has Karthi essaying dual roles after a decade-long hiatus. The last time he played dual characters was in Siva's Siruthai, which was the remake of Tollywood hit Vikramarkudu.
The story of Sardar is said to revolve around a father-son relationship and a cop who goes on to take risks to save his father, a prisoner. Raashi Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan play the leading ladies and the film marks the comeback of Laila. Bollywood actor Chunky Pandey makes his debut in Tamil with the film. While Yuvan was initially roped in, he opted out due to date issues. Ruben is handling the editing and George C Williams is in charge of the cinematography. Aha Tamil has bagged the digital streaming rights of the film.
