Karthi's Sardar to hit screens for Diwali

The second-look poster from Karthi's upcoming film Sardar was released today. In the poster, Karthi is seen as a cop in the thick of action. He is surrounded by media personnels and his action is seen being captured on cell phones. Taking to his social media page, Karthi wrote, "Happy to reveal the second look from #Sardar. Looking forward to celebrating Diwali with this ambitious project. #SardarFromDiwali2022@Psmithran @RaashiiKhanna_ @rajisha_vijayan @gvprakash #Laila @ChunkyThePanday @george_dop @AntonyLRuben @lakku76 @Prince_Pictures (sic)."

The spy action film, directed by PS Mithran, has Karthi essaying dual roles after a decade-long hiatus. The last time he was played dual characters was in Siva's Siruthai, which was the remake of Tollywood hit Vikramarkudu. The story of Sardar is said to revolve around a father-son relationship and a cop who goes on to take risks to save his father, a prisoner. The film marks the comeback of Laila, who was one of the top stars of the early 2000s.

Raashi Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan play the leading ladies in Sardar. The film also marks the debut of Bollywood actor Chunky Pandey in Tamil. GV Prakash has composed the music for the film. While Yuvan was initially roped in, he opted out due to date issues. Ruben is handling the editing and George C Williams is in charge of the cinematography. K Kadhir is handline the art direction. Dhilip Subbarayan has choreographed the action scenes for Sardar. The streaming rights for the film has been bagged by Aha Tamil. The shoot for the film had been put on hold due to the pandemic.

Karthi's next release will be Muthiah's Viruman, which is directed by Muthaiah and marks the debut of Aditi Shankar. He also has in it kitty Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan, which will be released as two-part series.
