Following a successful start to 2025 with the smash hit Chhaava, director Laxman Utekar (who has done cinematography for English Vinglish) shows no signs of retreating. The filmmaker is currently preparing for his next feature after releasing a successful film. This is a long-awaited reunion that fans have been hoping for, according to industry rumours.
As per MidDay, the leads of Luka Chuppi (2019), Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon, are rumoured to be developing a romantic drama with Utekar once again. According to reports, producer Dinesh Vijan, with whom the three have had a lengthy creative partnership, will be behind this project.
An insider has confirmed that the plot is currently under development. Unlike his comedic take on live-in relationships in Luka Chuppi, Utekar (watch Tapaal) and is delving into a serious topic in this film, which has the characteristic taste of rural India.
The busy work schedules may be a problem, but the idea of the beloved on-screen couple reuniting with the filmmaker is still interesting. Naagzilla and Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri are already scheduled for Aaryan's schedule for the rest of the year, and he is now shooting Anurag Basu's next project.
Sanon is also working on several projects at once. Starring opposite Shahid Kapoor in an untitled film, Tere Ishk Mein, and supposedly in the highly anticipated Don 3, the actor is currently making headlines after winning a National Award for Mimi (2021), her last collaboration with Utekar.
The true challenge will lie with the dates. Launching the project early next year is possible if everything works out as planned. The source also anticipates making a decision once the final script is ready in August.
Fans of the Luka Chuppi actors are going crazy over the idea of seeing them back on screen again but in a much darker story. If everything proceeds as planned, Utekar's upcoming film could potentially showcase one of the most eagerly awaited reunions of 2025.
