The Karuppu teaser is out on actor Suriya’s birthday! As he turns 50, the glimpse into the world of Karuppu is interesting, intriguing and action-packed as we see Suriya in his massy form. While there is a lot to unpack from the teaser, and some standout moments as well, Karuppu is directed by RJ Balaji and features Trisha in the female lead role.
The teaser of Karuppu begins on a high note, as we see celebrations of demi-god festivities taking place. In rural Tamil Nadu, local deities are worshipped a lot, and Karuppu (the film title) also derives from a similar family of deities. It is at this time, we are shown Suriya as a lawyer who is introduced as Saravanan (incidentally, that is Suriya's real name as well), as he says he has another name as well. And we are hinted that it could be Karuppu, the demi-god itself? Perhaps RJ Balaji is making a demi-god fantasy drama, much like his Mookuthi Amman.
We are shown that Suriya is nowhere the calm and composed lawyer he plays in Jai Bhim. The tease does not forget to pay tribute to Suriya's iconic watermelon scene from Ghajini with his signature finger moment, only this time it is more ferocious. Even as the antagonist of the film is not shown, a couple of confrontation scenes feature RJ Balaji, even as his face is not shown. Like we reported earlier, the director who played roles in his directorial Mookuthi Amman and Veetla Vishesham will play an important role in Karuppu as well, by standing opposite Suriya. Karuppu does not seem to be just an actioner, but also will have a divine intervention, as we see Suriya having more scenes in which he is projected as a saviour.

A release date for the film has not yet been revealed by the makers, but speculations suggest that the film will be in for the Diwali race. Karuppu marks the first time Suriya and RJ Balaji are collaborating. The film also features Trisha, Indrans, Swasika, and others.
