Kathal announcement: Sanya Malhotra to play an aspiring young police officer in forthcoming Netflix film

Sanya Malhotra and Anant Joshi star in Netflix's upcoming film, Kathal, which began shooting earlier this week. This woman-led dramedy, set in a tiny village, follows a local politician whose cherished jackfruits (Kathals) go missing and a young police officer, Mahima, played by Sanya Malhotra, who is determined to solve the unusual case to prove herself. Yashowardhan Mishra makes his directorial debut with Kathal, which he also co-wrote with acclaimed, award-winning writer Ashok Mishra.

In a statement, producer Guneet Monga said that at Sikhya Entertainment, they seek to create material that is distinctive, entertaining, and heartwarming. They are excited to begin another exciting journey with Sanya Malhotra, and what better way to do so than with their partners, Balaji and Netflix? 

Monga shared that the director, Yashowardhan Mishra, is behind the camera of Kathal, a satirical comedy. From day one and page one, Yashowardhan and Ashok Mishra, the writers and imagineers behind Kathal, drew them into its fascinating universe, and they can't wait for it to come to life for everyone to enjoy! 

The Oscar-winning producer assures us that Kathal, like the fruit itself, will leave one with a pleasant sensation that they will remember in the future, and they are so happy for everyone to experience Sanya in a whole new light in this unusual story.

Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, the co-producer and Executive Vice President at Balaji Telefilms, shared that their goal at Balaji Motion Pictures is to keep telling genre-bending, engaging, and relevant tales. Kathal, a funny tale set in rural India and starring Sanya Malhotra, is one of them. Yashowardhan's perspective on this "bizarre" genuine story is both funny and thoughtful, added Kapoor. Following Pagglait's overwhelming success, they were thrilled to collaborate with Sikhya and Netflix to deliver stories with an Indian heart to a worldwide audience.

Sanya Malhotra will make her Netflix comeback following her memorable performances in films like Ludo, Pagglait, and Meenakshi Sundareshwar.
