Jayasurya's upcoming fantasy horror film, Kathanar - The Wild Sorcerer, has been getting attention since the release of its first-look video. The video is being praised for its look and background music. Now, scriptwriter R Ramanand has shared some additional insights about the real-life character, Kadamattathu Kathanar, on whose life the film is based.
In a Facebook post, Ramanand revealed that the hymns and mantras used in the trailer are authentic and were written by the real Kathanar.
'Kathanar was a real wizard priest'
Ramanand wrote in his Facebook post that popular poet Kottarathil Sankunni's writings about Kathanar reveal that Kathanar's mantras are difficult to read. The hymns written by the priest are a mix of Syrian, Malayalam, and Tamil languages. Ramanand also posted that Kathanar is not a fictional character created by Kottarathil Sankunni, but a real priest who was an expert wizard. Ramanand has also claimed that he discovered a book written by the real Kathanar when visiting a friend.
Ramanand says that he planned to write a book about the Kathanar but decided to make it a film after meeting Jayasurya.
Happy with how director Rojin Thomas has brought his script to life on screen, Ramanand wrote that he is pleased with how the director has made the film bigger than what he has written. Ramanand also thanked the producers of the big-budget fantasy horror film.
Kathanar, the Malayalam magnum opus
Kathanar - The Wild Sorcerer is helmed by Rojin Thomas, who is known for films like Philips and The Monkey Pen, and Home. Kathanar is mounted on a large scale, and according to reports, it is the most expensive Malayalam film ever made. The 3D film, which is shot using virtual production techniques, will be released in 15 languages worldwide.
Along with Jayasurya, the film also stars Bahubali actress Anushka Shetty. Kathanar - The Wild Sorcerer is bankrolled by Sree Gokulam Movies, the production house known for periodic films like Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja.
