Happy Birthday Prabhu Deva, or the virtuoso, as addressed by the makers of Jayasurya’s upcoming period fantasy horror thriller Kathanar: The Wild Sorcerer! As the multifaceted star celebrates his birthday, the makers of the Jayasurya-starrer took to their social media handles to unveil the first-look poster of Prabhu Deva’s character from the upcoming Malayalam film.
The poster features Prabhu Deva in a royal bronze suit with a cape. The actor is also seen wearing a turban with antique jewellery. He can be seen holding onto two ropes on either side, indicating that he could be playing the role of a magician.
The poster has definitely evoked interest about the dance icon’s character among Malayali fans who have been waiting to see Prabhu Deva make a return to Mollywood after the 2011 blockbuster Urumi. It is worth noting that the actor's last Malayalam outing in the Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer was also a historical period film. We cannot wait to see what role the actor is going to play in this much-anticipated horror fantasy film.
An intriguing teaser
Earlier on the eve of lead actor Jayasurya's birthday, the teaser for the fantasy horror film was dropped. The teaser featured Kerala’s folklore legend Kadamattathu Kathanar, who was said to have magical powers. Jayasurya plays a man being held captive by church officials who are wary of his skills. The teaser then showcases villagers facing mysterious challenges. The short glimpse concludes with Jayasurya's character, Kathanar, dressed as a priest. The background music and visual effects have added to the horror element of the film.
Jayasurya’s Kathanar - The Wild Sorcerer
The film is directed by Rojin Thomas, who previously helmed the National Award-winning movie, Home. The upcoming film also stars Anushka Shetty (as Kalliyankattu Neeli), Prabhu Deva, Jiyad Irani and Vineeth in pivotal roles. The film is based on the story of the legendary Christian priest Kadamattathu Kathanar. JJ Park, who has worked on The Last of Us and Shazam, is the action director of the film. The film which is currently in its production stage is expected to have a theatrical release later this year.
