Of late, Mollywood filmmakers seem to have ensured that when it comes to action in their films, there should be no compromise. Be it roping in Hollywood stunt choreographer Vlad Rimburg of Lucifer and Altered Carbon fame for Tovino Thomas’ Minnal Murali or KGF and Vikram fame Anbariv for the recent hit RDX: Robert Doney Xavier , Malayalam cinema’s producers have left no stone unturned to get the best to work in their films. The latest to join this list is Jungjin Park aka JJ Park – for director Rojin Thomas’ Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer.

The 3D supernatural fantasy horror movie, which has Jayasurya, Anushka Shetty and Vineeth as part of its cast, has roped in Park for the action scenes in the film that is set in the 9th century.

From Prey to The Last of Us, JJ Park’s stellar filmography

If Vlad Rimburg had been associated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Park’s filmography too shows that he has worked in some of the best movies and series to come out recently. These include The Last of Us, Prey, Shazam!, Deadpool 2, Snake Eyes and Titans. He had worked as a stunt performer in these films.

The team, which had wrapped up the first schedule of the big-budget movie, is set to resume shooting next month and has over 100 days of shoot left.

Kathanar is an international film from Malayalam: Rojin Thomas

In a recent interview with OTTplay, the film’s director Rojin told us that the team is committed to bringing out a film that boasts of international standards, from the Malayalam film industry. The team have been using motion capture as well as virtual production techniques for Kathanar, which also marks Baahubali actress Anushka Shetty’s Malayalam debut.

The film will be released in two parts. “The first part, which is expected to be out in 2024, will have a story that will conclude in the film itself, and the second movie will be a prequel to the incidents that had happened,” said Rojin.
