Kaun Banega Shikharwati trailer: Naseeruddin Shah, Lara Dutta's next seems inspired by Squid Game

Naseeruddin Shah is all set to be seen in a quirky drama titled Kaun Banega Shikharwati. The upcoming web series also stars Soha Ali Khan, Lara Dutta, Anya Singh and Kritika Kamra in the lead roles. The show revolves around a dysfunctional family.

While Naseeruddin plays the role of a quirky king named Mrityunjay, the female leads are seen as his daughters in the upcoming dramedy. The series also sees Raghubir Yadav play a major role – as one of the royal king’s apprentices.

The series (and trailer) sees Cyrus Sahukar and Varun Thakur in cameo appearances. Dino Morea is also seen in a slightly unrecognisable character, just like Varun.

The plot of the series revolves around Naseeruddin’s Mrityunjay being under a huge debt. That is when his four daughters, who have not even been on talking terms, come together to inherit his assets.

The series also takes inspiration from Squid Games and has a mention of ‘royal games’ which broke the bond between the sisters. In fact, Raghubir’s character even gives them tasks to ‘test’ these daughters, much like those in debt were tested in Squid Game.

Cheesy dialogues which can be passed off as quirky set the excitement level for the show. However, that drops off soon since a lot happens after that. A big revelation (or so the makers make it seem) is made and Naseeruddin puts the nail in the coffin by stating Shikhawati stays in hearts. If that was the whole point, why make the audience go through all the drama?

Talking about the project, Soha Ali Khan stated that she took up Kaun Banegi Shikharwati because of the ‘out-of-the-box story’. Meanwhile, Lara called working with the ‘mad gang’ a refreshing experience. Anya explained that the series pushed her limits, while Kritika believes she got ‘three sisters for life’.

Kaun Banegi Shikharwati is a Zee5 original show. It will be released on the OTT platform on January 7, 2022.
