The first match of the third edition of the Kannada Chalanachitra Cup had Kiccha Sudeep’s Hoysala Eagles taking on Darling Krishna’s Ganga Warriors. Hombale Films founder Vijay Kiragandur flipped the toss, with Sudeep calling tails and winning the same, following which he decided to send the Ganga Warriors in to bat first. When event host Srujan Lokesh asked him what the strategy was, Sudeep said there was none, but added, ““Both sides have great international players, so it is better to chase than setting them a target.” And what would Krishna have done if he had won the toss? “We were hopeful of winning the toss and sending the Hoysala Eagles in to bat first,” he said.

Batting first, the Ganga Warriors were hoping to set a target above 120 runs in the designated 10 overs, and after a good start set by Suresh Raina’s quick 20 and Karan Arryan’s unbeaten 71, they wrapped up six short at 114, setting Sudeep and gang 115 runs to win.

Speaking during the innings break, Suresh Raina said that his team had a decent total on the board that they could defend, provided they get Chris Gayle out soon enough. The former team India player added that he had a lot of fond memories of playing at the venue, Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

In response, Chris Gayle failed to give The Hoysala Eagles the start they were hoping for, with the team struggling to maintain a steady run rate, as the Ganga Warriors bowled a tight line. Ritesh Bhatkal’s innings didn’t help eventually, with the team losing by 1 run to Darling Krishna’s boys.

It is not over for the Hoysala Eagles, who will now take on the Wodeyar Chargers in the second match of the day. The last match for the day is between the Kadamba Lions and the Rashtrakoota Panthers.
