The third and final match of Day 1 of the Kannada Chalanachitra Cup (KCC) was between the Rashtrakuta Panthers and the Kadamba Lions. Batting first, after being sent in by the Panthers, the Kadamba Lions made 111 in their designated 10 overs, aided largely by Dilshan Tilakaratne’s 38 of 15 and Rajeev’s 30 of 12 balls. Chasing this target, the Kadamba Lions had a very slow start, getting to only half the score at the five over mark. In fact, after 7 overs the run rate had gone up to 16/over. Exasperated by the slow progress, Badrinath was ‘forced’ to retire hurt to make way for captain J Karthik with only two and a half overs left.

The skipper, though, wasn’t able to change the course of the match, departing after scoring only two runs and despite a late burst by Nihal, the Lions fell short by 10 runs in the end. Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Karthik said that the way the match progressed was a learning experience for them on what to do and what not to in the next one.
