Action Prince Dhruva Sarja’s KD – The Devil, directed by Jogi and Jogayya fame Prem, is, without doubt, one of the most anticipated Kannada films of 2025. A period film, KD was launched in March 2024 and is said to be complete, but for the songs, which the team is expected to finish up shortly. While the makers have not commented on a potential release window, KD will most definitely be a 2025 film. The latest speculation is that the film could be in theatres as early as August.

KD unlikely in August and here's why

In the last couple of days, the buzz on social media has been that KD will release in August, with a date closer to Ganesha Chaturthi likely. Ganesha falls on August 27, so a date after the 20th is what is being heard. Although a festival release is ideal, this seems highly unlikely, because the second half of August will be too close to the release of composer Arjun Janya’s directorial debut 45, which will be in theatres on August 15.

Arjun is the composer for KD and one of his leading men, Shivarajkumar, is a frequent Prem collaborator (Jogi, Jogayyah, The Villain), who is said to have a pivotal cameo in KD. Dasara 2025 is a more likely release window, say industry insiders. Dhruva’s last film, Martin, was in theatres for Dasara 2024. The AP Arjun directorial was widely thrashed for its below par execution, a feedback that the team did not take kindly to.

Produced by KVN Productions, KD also stars Reeshma Nanaiah, whom Prem introduced in Ek Love Ya , V Ravichandran, Ramesh Aravind, Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, Yamuna Srinidhi among others. Prem, who brought Yana Gupta, Mallika Sherawat and Sunny Leone to Kannada cinema with special numbers in his films Jogi, Ee Preethi Yeke Bhoomi Melide and DK , respectively, is, reportedly, getting Norah Fatehi for a song in KD.
