Filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor's Telugu debut Good Luck Sakhi, a sports comedy featuring Keerthy Suresh, Aadhi Pinisetty, Jagapathi Babu and Rahul Ramakrishna in pivotal roles, has been in the news for a long time over the last year, with the grapevine buzzing with rumours that the film was headed for an OTT release. While the makers locked June 3 for a theatrical release after the theatres opened to a thunderous response in Telugu states earlier this year, the second wave of COVID-19 didn't give the team much of a chance to go ahead with their plans. More recently, a report that the film is only aimed at the big-screen audience has been making the rounds.

Clearing some air about it, one of the film's producers Shravya Varma, shared on her Twitter handle, "Hearing a lot of speculation about the release of #GoodLuckSakhi, as you all know it was to release on June 3rd but the turn of events did not permit us to do so.  However, there is no clarity on the new release date or platform yet. we will update as soon as we have one." This was also followed by a response to a news item about the film's theatrical release plans, where she added, "This isn't true either", and deleted the tweet later.

The producer's social media post was more or less a hint that the makers aren't averse to releasing directly on OTT. It may also be a practical decision to do so, given the tentative situation with the re-opening of theatres and the lack of any clarity about occupancy. Good Luck Sakhi wrapped its shoot in September 2020 and the makers can't afford to be indecisive about the release for long either.
