For those who haven't seen Eternals yet, beware of spoilers. In the post-credit scene from the latest MCU film, director Chloe Zhao said that she never considered hiring anyone other than Harry Styles to play Thanos' brother Eros. Styles makes his MCU debut as the superhero Starfox in the first of two post-credits extra scenes, according to Deadline.
For the uninitiated, in the climax of Eternals, after Arishem the Judge (David Kaye) takes Sersi (Gemma Chan), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), and Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) to account for their actions, Eros and Pip the Troll (voiced by Patton Oswalt) appear before Thena (Angelina Jolie), Druig (Barry Keoghan), and Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), who are left confused.
Talking about Styles' appearance, Zhao told the international publication that for her, Harry as Eros was a whole package. She pitched Kevin the idea of Pip the Troll (voiced by Patton Oswald in Eternals) and Eros a while back, and she liked the idea of exploring an Eternal who isn't Titan and who might have influenced Thanos over the years in the same way that Eternals influenced the earthlings.
The filmmaker went on to say that she didn't suggest Eros and then proceeded to select actors. Zhao had been following Harry since Dunkirk and thought he was fascinating. She knew after meeting him that he was that character in the same way that the rest of the Eternals cast was. The Oscar-winning director praised Styles by saying that he has a lot of Eros in him and it's a go for her if he says yes and Kevin says yes. Zhao is grateful to both of them for doing so.
Richard Madden, who plays Ikaris in the film, is eager to discover more about Eros and Pip, as well as their future roles in this universe. He said, "It's all still a mystery. I want to know more about that little goblin that popped up. Who is that guy?"
