Disney+ Hotstar’s first Malayalam webseries titled Kerala Crime Files, which is helmed by Madhuram and June director Ahammed Khabeer, is gearing up for its release soon. The series, which has Aju Varghese and Lal, is scripted by Madhuram writer Ashiq Aimar and has Kho Kho director Rahul Riji Nair as its producer.

In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Rahul tells us, “Kerala Crime Files is an investigative police procedural. Aju Varghese and Lal sir play the lead roles of the investigating officers. Most of the characters are part of the police team, but there are other familiar artistes who play supporting roles. Close to 70 actors are part of the movie. It’s done on a decent scale too.”

Ask him if the series is based on a true incident and the filmmaker says, “It’s inspired from true events. It will have six episodes and it follows the investigation of a single case.”

The team has already completed the shoot of the series, which had Kollam, Kottayam and Kochi as its main locations. “We are currently in the advanced post-production stage. The release date has not been confirmed yet but we are expecting it to drop on the platform by June,” says Rahul.

Incidentally, Rahul is also showrunner for Sony LIV’s first web series titled Jai Mahendran, which is a political satire. The upcoming series, which is directed by Srikanth Mohan, has Saiju Kurup as the titular character, while Suhasini, Miya, Suresh Krishna, Maniyan Pilla Raju and Vishnu Govindan are also part of the cast.
