Kerala State Film Awards 2024-25: Mammootty, who was impressive in Bramayugam, leads the list of hopefuls, while Asif Ali, who starred in hits like Kishkindha Kaandam, is also very much in contention

The Kerala State Film Awards is expected to be announced in August 2025, leading to discussions and debates on who would be top contenders and winners. Social media is especially interested in knowing who would bag the Best Actor Award. Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty leads the list of hopefuls, while Asif Ali who too had stellar 2024 is also very much in contention, the social media thinks.
Ever since reports said that the prestigious Kerala State Film Awards is likely to be declared in the second week of August, speculations are rife on social media about who would the Best Actor Award. Malayalam actor Mammootty, Asif Ali and Fahadh Faasil are among the top contenders. If Mammootty wins, it would be his Kerala State Film Award. But if Asif Ali gets the coveted award, it would be his very first.

Fans are hopeful that Mammootty could win the award for his stellar performance as Kodumon Potti in Bramayugam . The veteran shed his megastar image and transformed into an ageing patriarch in Rahul Sadasivan’s folklore horror thriller. The film had won the critics’ approval and audience's appreciation. He had secured the award previously for his performance in director Lijo Jose Pellissery’s film Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam in the year 2022. In 2023 also, his name was shortlisted for the award for his performance in the path-breaking film Kaathal – The Core.

Asif Ali, on the other hand, is yet to win a Kerala State Film Award. The year 2024 saw him in stellar movies such as Kishkindha Kaandam and Thalavan. He was also seen in Level Cross. Though he hasn’t won the award before, he came close in 2019 for his performance in the film, Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha. Fans are hopeful that Asif would finally get the recognition for his craft.
Fahadh Faasil, who floored audiences with his performance as Rangannan in the 2024 hit film Aavesham, could also be in contention for the award. Actor Tovino Thomas, who appeared in triple roles in the film Ajayante Randam Moshanam, was also appreciated for his stunning transformation.
Last year, the awards were declared in August, with Prithviraj Sukumaran winning the Best Actor for Aadujeevitham. The iconic Urvashi won the Best Actress award for her moving performance in Ullozhukku.
