Kesari Chapter 2 is winning at the box office as the film has been getting positive responses from fans and critics. The film revolves around lawyer C. Sankaran Nair and his legal battle against the powerful British Empire to uncover the truth behind the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The film has also been getting attention because of Akshay Kumar's use of the f-word, and in a new interview, director Karan Singh Tyagi addressed the buzz and said that it was taken after thorough research.
During an interview with Filme Shilmy, director Karan Singh Tyagi opened up about the buzz around Akshay Kumar's f-word in Kesari Chapter 2. He admitted that it was taken after thorough research and the team also discussed with historians before including the word in the film.
He said, “It was very important for us to include the ‘f**k you’ in the film because, for us, the whole point was to look the British in the eye and say ‘f**k you’ for what they had done. That was the courage we imbibed from Sankaran Nair’s story, and it’s the same courage we wanted to depict.”
Akshay Kumar's best movies, such as Pad Man, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo, and more, are available on OTTplay Premium!
The director also added that the term originated in the 16th century, and they included the phrase only after speaking to historians and conducting background checks.
Akshay Kumar also addressed the buzz earlier during the trailer launch of the film. He said, “Yes, I used that word. But what’s surprising is that you noticed this, yet the phrase ‘you are still a slave’ wasn’t seen as a major insult? I think there’s no greater insult than that. I would have been happier if you had pointed out the use of the word ‘slave’ rather than focusing on ‘f**k you.’”
In Kesari Chapter 2, Akshay Kumar played the role of lawyer, C. Sankaran Nair. He fought against the British Empire, and R. Madhavan played a lawyer for the British side, Neville McKinley. On the other hand, Ananya Panday played a lawyer, Dilreet Gill, who supported Nair. The cast also features Regina Cassandra as Sankaran Nair's wife, Simon Paisley Day, Alexx O'Nell, and Steven Hartley. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Hiroo Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Aruna Bhatia, Adar Poonawalla, Anand Tiwari, and Amritpal Singh Bindra.
