KGF Chapter 2 OTT release date: It’s official; film will be available to Amazon Prime Video subscribers from June 3

Finally, we have an official announcement from Amazon Prime Video on when KGF: Chapter 2 will be available to stream at no extra cost. All five versions of the Yash starrer – Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi – will start streaming on June 3, which coincides with the film’s 50th day celebration.

KGF: Chapter 2, which released in theatres on April 14, was made available with its digital partner, Amazon Prime Video, on May 16, as part of the streamers new video-on-demand rental scheme. As per this arrangement, both subscribers and non-subscribers had early access to the film at a payment of Rs 199, Subscribers, of course, were less than pleased at having to shell out additional amounts to access films as per the rental scheme, after paying Rs 1,499 on annual subscription charges.

Subsequently, it was widely reported that the ‘free for Prime members’ would kick in from May 27, but there was no official announcement from Amazon Prime Video. Instead, they added Runway 34 to the rental plan on that day.

Produced by Hombale Films and directed by Prashant Neel, KGF: Chapter 2 stars Yash, Srinidhi Shetty, Prakash Raj, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, BS Avinash, TS Nagabharana, Ayyappa P Sharma, Tarak Ponnappa, among others. The film has music by Ravi Basrur and cinematography by Bhuvan Gowda.

KGF: Chapter 2 was ready to release prior to the pandemic, but then had to be pushed ahead. Although the makers considered a window in August 2021, it was later pushed to April 14, 2022. At the time, the film was reported to be in competition with Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha. Subsequently, Aamir’s film was postponed. The only clash, thereafter, was with Vijay’s Beast in the south markets, but when that film failed to take off at the box office, KGF 2, quite literally, had a free run, going on to amass well over Rs 1,200 crore globally. The film is currently still in theatres in select areas, with the team gearing up to celebrate its 50-day run at the box office on June 3.
