Throughout the promotions of KGF: Chapter 2, the entire team of the film, especially director Prashant Neel was vehement that it was the conclusion of the tale. He had, after all, envisioned only one film called KGF, which eventually was split into two parts, he had said. Producer Vijay Kiragandur, though, appeared to jest when he said that Hombale Films’ would be willing to produce any number of KGF films. It was only on April 14, after the first show of KGF: Chapter 2 that it became apparent that the makers had an ace up their sleeve, with a post-credit scene teasing the possibility of KGF: Chapter 3
Back then, social media quite literally exploded with theories about what part 3 could entail, with many pointing to the 2-3 years prior to Rocky’s supposed death as shown in KGF2, which is when he well and truly becomes the world’s most wanted criminal, and why the CIA has a file on him. Of course, there were other theories too that although his seemingly lifeless body was shown sinking in the ocean, Rocky would have made his escape in a submarine that was primed and ready to pick him up. They reckon that he would not have set out to see with all the gold without a solid plan.
Whatever be the case, we will get to know when KGF: Chapter 3 comes to theatres in 2024. The makers had confirmed a third chapter earlier, but now, producer Vijay has added that that they will go on floors with the third instalment in the KGF saga by the end of 2022. Director Prashant is currently in the midst of his next, Salaar, with Prabhas in the lead, which is also a Hombale Films production. This is about 30-35% done and the makers are hopeful of completing the tale of the world’s most violent man by October-November and then going back to the set of KGF.
For the longest time, fans have been speculating that Prashant will find a way to connect the KGF universe with that of Salaar. In fact, it was thought that the character Farmaan, played by Saran Sakthi, was a young Salaar, but now that he is presumed dead, this theory may not hold value. Fans are, however, hopeful that Prashant will come up with a masterstroke to bring Salaar and Rocky Bhai together onscreen.
KGF: Chapter 2, which released in theatres on April 14, is continuing its magic run at the box office in the fifth week. The film has grossed close to Rs 1,200 crore world-wide so far.
