Yesterday India celebrated its 78th Independence Day with a cinematic spectacle. Three highly anticipated films—Stree 2, Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa hit the theatres together. Unfortunately, the opening day box office collection of Khel Khel Mein couldn't show positivity. The comedy-drama failed to create magic on the box office despite having A-listers like Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Fardeen Khan, Vaani Kapoor, Amy Virk in lead roles.
In spite of having excellent advance ticket sales, Akshay Kumar's Khel Khel Mein trailed as the less preferred choice among the audience. On its opening day, the comedy drama collected only Rs. 5 crores. With the upcoming long weekend, the film now aims to reach Rs. 20 crores by Monday.
Despite being the Hindi remake of the 2016 Italian film, Perfect Strangers, Khel Khel Mein couldn't do well on its opening day. For the unversed, Perfect Strangers was a critical and commercial success, winning the David di Donatello award in the Best Film Category and grossing more than €16 million in Italy.
The box office performance of Khel Khel Mein is shocking given its high production cost. While Shraddha Kapoor's Stree 2 and John Abraham's Vedaa were made on a budget of Rs. 50 crores, Akshay Kumar-starrer’s estimated budget was a staggering Rs. 100 crores, making it the most expensive among the three.
A seemingly interesting game can sometimes become a catalyst for shattering illusions. It can carefully take away the trust and value between friends and spouses, and that's what the story is about Khel Khel Mein. A group of close friends, bound by shared experiences, decide to have a get-together dinner party. As the evening unfolds, the casual conversation takes an intense turn, leading to an unexpected series of revelations.
