‘Khufiya’ raaz is out: Vishal Bhardwaj reveals Tabu’s gender changes for their upcoming film

Vishal Bhardwaj has revealed that he has changed Tabu’s gender in their upcoming film, Khufiya. The actor-filmmaker have collaborated on various projects previously and all of them have been a hit. They will now be seen in a mysterious film, titled Khufiya.

At a recent Netflix event, Vishal spoke about Tabu while sitting right next to her. “I thought Tabu can pull it off so I changed her gender,” Vishal said, making Tabu laugh.

However, the filmmaker got in a serious mode soon. The first thing he spilled in that state? “For me, making a film means how can I add Tabu to the story,” Vishal shared.

Tabu soon talks about her character in the film. She says that the character is layered and interesting, adding that there’s a strange parallel between what her character is doing and what her life is. The actress promises that these aspects intertwine.

Vishal, on the other hand, analyzed what an espionage thriller means in India. He says that due to the influence of 007 and Bond, there’s always an assassin factor. However, the officer has to stay in the shadows, which is an interesting story in itself.

What exactly fascinated the filmmaker? He says that it was the setup and how the book, set in 2004, made him sit in one place and understand what life was like in that space.

Khufiya is based on Amar Bhushan's bestselling espionage novel Escape to Nowhere. The movie stars Alia Fazal as the antagonist/character with a grey shade.

The movie is slated to release directly on OTT. Vishal has signed a deal with Netflix to release his film on the platform. The release date though, is yet to be confirmed.
