Khufiya Teaser: Tabu is a mysterious presence in Vishal Bharadwaj’s spy thriller

In this Vishal Bharadwaj-directorial, words cannot articulate what facial expressions are capable of. And so, all Tabu and Ali Fazal and Wamiqa Gabbi do is emote through their gloomy mien—screams, stares, erry laughs and silent glares.

After a quick introduction to Vishal Bharadwaj’s world of Khufiya in the first look that was released last month, Netflix, at their ongoing TUDUM event, released a new teaser from the spy thriller and words like ‘intriguing’ and ‘chilling’ do not even cut it.

The second teaser, which is of one minute and 24 seconds only, sees a mysterious Tabu sharing the characteristic traits of presumably a woman through intricate details about her mannerisms. Soon, the camera switches to a woman between sheets and there’s this mention of a mole and ‘a mole’. Teaser of all teasers is how we would describe it!

Veteran Bollywood filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj’s entry into the world of espionage is going to be a riveting watch, with actors like Tabu and Ali Fazal, among others, taking on the responsibility of bringing these complex characters to life.

Bharadwaj, an ardent of Shakespearean tragedies, has rendered a poetic vibe to the story of Khufiya.

Even in those fleeting moments, Tabu holds your attention and how! Wamiqa Gabbi is the woman that Tabu refers to in her whimsical voiceover and Ali fazal is only a lingering presence in the teaser.

The Netflix film, starring Tabu, Ali Fazal and Wamiqa Gabbi, in leading roles, follows the story of a RAW agent who is hunting a mole down accused of selling the country’s highly confidential defence information.

Directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, Khufiya is based on the novel Escape To Nowhere, and has been written-for-screen by Amar Bhushan.
