Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep’s next, Mark, which releases on December 25, reunites him with Max maker Vijay Kartikeyaa, is an action-packed drama that has him as a super cop investigating the disappearance and then tragic death of young children. It’s a story that spans close to 48 hours duration that they’re telling in a 2-hour-15- minute movie, which does not really leave room for his character, as protagonist, to also have a romantic angle.

Kiccha Sudeep on why he's not had a heroine in 3 back-to-back films

Like Max , in which Vijay had added a love track as a flashback in his script, Mark too had something to that effect, but Sudeep did not see the merit in it. When Vijay narrated the script, Sudeep wondered why there was a heroine in the story, which felt like a force-fit, and the director said that he’d added it to appease fans. Sudeep, though, asked him to stay honest to the story and include only what is absolutely necessary and so, yet again, he does not have a love interest.

“Gone are the days when heroines would make an appearance for some song-and-dance routines only. I believe that we need to do right by an artiste who works in my film, especially with heroines; they should have as much prominence as the hero. I have always followed that, except, maybe Vikrant Rona, in which Milana Nagaraj had very little to do, but that was the script requirement. I have not done a film in which I had a heroine since Kotigobba 3,” said Sudeep in conversation with News18 Kannada.

Having said that, the Kannada superstar adds that he will soon be seen in a romantic drama. “I have okayed a beautiful script, which will have me in a good rom-com after quite a while. That should satisfy fans then and put an end to questions about a love interest in my films,” he signs off.
