All eyes were firmly fixed on Kiccha Sudeep's announcement scheduled on April 5. The actor, flanked by Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai and other key members of the Bharatiya Janata Party, arrived at the grand Lalit Ashok Hotel in Bengaluru for a special media gathering, where he was meant to discuss his much-anticipated political foray.

Interestingly, Sudeep had already 'briefed' the media ahead of this conference and cleared the air that he wouldn't be contesting elections but only supporting a few chosen individuals, whom he holds very dear to his heart. However, the media gathering was still hyped up because one sought a few extra details regarding Sudeep's unexpected involvement in politics.

CM Basavaraj Bommai, too, offered a clarification right off the bat that every view that Sudeep would be expressing at the press conference is completely personal, and that the announcement should be treated only as an 'informal' one. The evident camaraderie between the two became another highlight of the afternoon and Sudeep had no qualms in announcing that he was wholeheartedly standing by his 'mama' Basavaraj Bommai ahead of the 2023 Karnataka elections.

"When I was entering the film industry about 27 years ago, it was mama (Basavaraj Bommai) who stood by me and supported me in that difficult phase. If I am not wrong, he was foraying into politics around the same time. So, when he has done that, it is my duty to support him and I will do it in my best capacity."

"But that said, I cannot campaign for everyone ahead of the elections. Bommai mama has a few certain people in mind that he wants me to support and I will go by what he wants of me," said Kiccha Sudeep at the press conference, suggesting strongly that his stance is purely personal and that it has not emerged out of any kind of compulsion.

What about the section of fans that is miffed with his political involvement? "My fans have stood by me for 27 years and I don't think they will have a change of heart just because of my ideological stance. And I will remain an actor - I have many films lined-up and they will be my priority," added the Vikrant Rona actor.
