Kiccha Sudeep’s birthday bonanza for his fans and audiences who were eagerly waiting for his latest, Vikrant Rona, to drop on OTT, was the film’s appearance on Zee5 Kannada. Zee Network had bought the satellite and digital rights to the Kannada version of the Anup Bhandari directorial much before its theatrical release. Vikrant Rona had opened in theatres on July 28, and the OTT release came just over a month later.

Since the film came on Zee5 Kannada, it has apparently clocked 500 million-minute streams, which is a commendable feat and speaks volumes of the film’s popularity. Sudeep shared a video message to thank his fans for all the birthday wishes and for getting the film to a landmark 500-million-streaming minutes.

Vikrant Rona is a fantasy action thriller in which Sudeep played the title role. The film follows the mysterious disappearances and deaths of children in a village called Kamarottu that is being attributed to a Brahmarakshasa, and the police investigation thereof. For Inspector Vikrant Rona, there’s a personal stake in getting to the root of the mystery. Whether he solves it before further tragedy strikes forms the crux of the narrative.

The film was shot in 2D and then converted to 3D to present the world of Vikrant Rona (which was mostly sets) in its full glory. William David was the cinematographer, while Ajaneesh Loknath scored the music. Also, on the cast of the film were Nirup Bhandari, Neetha Ashok, Siddu Moolimani, among others.

Vikrant Rona, meanwhile, has been sold to multiple OTT and satellite partners for maximum reach. The film’s Telugu version will come to Disney+Hotstar on September 16. The buzz in industry circles is that the Hindi version of the film will go to SonyLiv, while Malayalam and Tamil are yet to be announced.
