R Chandru’s upcoming directorial, Kabzaa, is his most ambitious project to date. Mounted on a massive scale, this underworld tale narrates the story of a don over a four-decade time period. The film has only been shot at sets to recreate the period era, but also to firmly keep everything about it under wraps. The film, which has Real Star Upendra in the lead, also stars Sudeep in a pivotal role as Bhargav Bakshi, along with Kabir Duhan Singh, Kamraj, Danish Akhtar Saifi, Sunil Puranik, Anup Revanna, Pramod Shetty, Pradeep Rawat, Jagapathi Babu, Ravi Kishan, and Kota Srinivas. We now hear that the team is ready for a new schedule, during which Sudeep will join them.
The team had earlier announced the actor’s inclusion on the cast with a post that read, “His journey begins to end the bloody mafia ‘Badshaah Kichcha Sudeep as Bhargav Bakshi (1947-1986).” Kabzaa marks Sudeep’s second collaboration with Upendra after their earlier Mukunda Murari.
“During this schedule, we are looking at finishing most of the principal photography, leaving only a few songs and sequences for a last, 30-day schedule in Hyderabad. Since Kabzaa is a period film spanning the 1940s to early 80s, it could only be shot in sets where the era was recreated. Right now, multiple sets have been erected in Bengaluru, which is a time-consuming process, as we cannot afford to get any element of that era wrong and need to maintain utmost quality in the production, given the film’s pan-Indian status. Art director Shivakumar is, no doubt, one of the heroes of Kabzaa, as he has meticulously produced my vision for the film,” director Chandru had told us in an earlier conversation.
Interestingly, with only a couple more schedules left, and having had over 110 days of shoot already, the team is yet to finalize a leading lady for the film. Director Chandru is hopeful of roping in a leading south Indian actress for the same before the final Hyderabad schedule.
