Kiccha Sudeep’s Max dethrones Sanya Malhotra’s Mrs as most streamed movie on Zee5

Max – Kiccha Sudeep’s first release in over 2 years, which came out on Christmas 2024 and became the highest grosser of the year in Kannada cinema – came on OTT 5 days ago. The Vijay Kartikeyaa-directorial had a simultaneous television and OTT premiere on February 15 at 7.30 pm and since then, it has been the No.1 trending movie on Zee5 in India, where it is available with audio in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

Max beats Mrs

In becoming the most trending movie in the country, Max beat Sanya Malhotra’s direct-to-OTT release Mrs, which had dropped on the platform on February 7. Mrs, directed by Arati Kadav is the Hindi remake of the critically-acclaimed Malayalam movie, The Great Indian Kitchen. Although the Malayalam original, directed by Jeo Baby, was also much talked about and widely watched after its streaming debut, Mrs has also been well received, despite minor changes to the narrative to suit Hindi audiences.

Interestingly, while Max has made it to the top of Zee5’s trending movies in the country, and the rest of the list is populated by popular newer titles, also in the top 10 is Kiccha Sudeep’s 2022 release Vikrant Rona, which was his last movie outing before Max came along. Vikrant Rona was Sudeep’s first collaboration with Rangitaranga director Anup Bhandari, and was a moderate hit. While Sudeep received praise for his role, the fact that the film was set in the filmmaker’s Rangitaranga universe and was not very different from his debut movie did not work for audiences.

Sudeep will reunite with Anup for his next film, Billa Ranga Baashaa, which, as of February 18, the actor announced will go on floors in the second week of March. Both Sudeep and Anup are busy playing cricket as part of the Celebrity Cricket League, with the 2025 season set to end on March 2025. To be produced by Primeshow Entertainment, the makers of HanuMan, Billa Ranga Baashaa is, reportedly, being made as a two-part film, for which the makers have leased 4 acres of land for 4 years, where special sets will be erected, given that the story is set two centuries in the future.
