The makers of Kiccha Sudeep’s upcoming next, Max, have been very guarded about the project, revealing practically nothing about it. But then, earlier today, the plot synopsis of the film was updated on ticket aggregator BookMyShow, even though a release date is yet to be officially announced. According to the synopsis on the site, Sudeep plays a cop called Arjun Mahakshay, who comes across a minister’s son committing atrocities against fellow police officials and arrests him for the same. But then, the minister’s son dies in the ensuing scuffle. How Arjun deals with this situation is what debutant director Vijay Kartikeyaa’s film is about according to this update.

While Sudeep in cop mode is a fan favourite, what with the actor having slipped into khaki with relative ease many times before, whether it was ACP Thirupathi in Thirupathi, ACP Pratap in Mast Maja Maadi, ACP Madakari in Veera Madakari, ACP Varadanayaka in Varadanayaka, Inspector Vikrant Rona in Vikrant Rona, among others. Max has him back as a hot-headed police officer, which netizens point out, seems strangely similar to Ravi Teja’s 2021 Telugu hit, Krack. This, they say, is not surprising, considering that Sudeep’s big hit Veera Madakari is the remake of Ravi Teja’s Vikramarkudu. If this rumour about Max turns out to be true, the casting choice of Varalaxmi Sarathkumar could be interesting. She had played a ruthless negative role in Krack, after all.

“Why is Kiccha Sudeep remaking Krack when the original is already available to stream with Kannada audio?” was a common refrain seen on social media. Another comment was, “In Krack, a police constable’s son dies, here it is a minister’s son”. Many of the handles that posted this seem to be those of Darshan fans, though, and it is no secret that the Challenging Star’s fans and Kiccha Sudeep fans have been at loggerheads for quite a while. Max, meanwhile, is Sudeep’s first signing since 2022’s Vikrant Rona and was meant to be a 2023 outing, but inclement weather in Tamil Nadu, where the film is being shot, caused delays in some schedules.
